Overview
Many people are affected by acne. In the classic form of acne (acne vulgaris), there is initially a blockage of the sebaceous glands, leading to the formation of comedones (blackheads). When these become inflamed, the classic “pimples” appear. Treatment by an experienced dermatologist can alleviate symptoms and prevent long-term effects such as acne scars.

More information on Acne Vulgaris
WHAT IS ACNE? HOW DOES ACNE DEVELOP?
Almost everyone experiences blemished skin and pimples at certain life stages, particularly during puberty, with issues often resolving afterward. However, for some patients, skin problems can persist throughout life.
In classic acne, clogged sebaceous glands are frequently found on the face, back, or chest, referred to as comedones or blackheads. These comedones are the starting point for further inflammation and the development of classic acne vulgaris (commonly known as acne).
Often, skin blemishes, pimples, and acne scars pose significant cosmetic concerns for those affected.
WHAT TYPES OF ACNE EXIST? HOW DO THE FORMS OF ACNE DIFFER?
Acne Vulgaris: This is the "classic" or "common" form of acne, predominantly affecting young people during puberty. It is believed that increased hormone production during puberty, combined with genetic and external factors, leads to the onset of acne vulgaris. Treatment by an experienced dermatologist is often necessary to prevent complications such as acne scars. The cosmetic and psychological effects of successful acne treatment are crucial for many patients.
Acne Rosacea (Rosacea or Couperose): Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face. Many patients experience a gradual onset that worsens over time. Initially, patients may notice "red veins" on their face that are cosmetically disturbing. An experienced dermatologist can improve cosmetic results and prevent complications through targeted therapy.
Perioral Dermatitis (Mouth Rose): Previously known as "stewardess disease" or "mannequin disease," perioral dermatitis is a fairly common skin condition, predominantly affecting young women. It is characterized by persistent redness, bumps, and pimples around the mouth, which can also occur on other areas of the face. Often, these disturbing skin changes are accompanied by burning and itching.
The exact cause of perioral dermatitis is unknown, but prolonged skin irritation from improper skincare products or makeup can worsen the condition.
Treatment for perioral dermatitis should be established by an experienced dermatologist and maintained consistently for several weeks.
“Often, patients with perioral dermatitis use steroid creams. While these may provide initial relief, long-term use can worsen skin conditions. Treatment for perioral dermatitis can be lengthy but is successful in most cases.”
